Maxitrol Ophtalmic Solution - 0.1% - (5ml)
CA$33.74
This ophthalmic suspension is a potent combination of a Corticosteroid (Dexamethasone) and two broad-spectrum Antibiotics (Neomycin and Polymyxin B). While originally formulated for human use, it is widely used in veterinary medicine on an extra-label basis for dogs, cats, and horses. The combination of antibiotics provides coverage against a wide array of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, while the dexamethasone works rapidly to reduce the swelling, redness, and itching associated with ocular inflammation.
Active Ingredients: Dexamethasone (0.1%), Neomycin Sulfate (3.5 mg/mL), and Polymyxin B Sulfate (6,000 Units/mL).
Approved Species (Original Licensing): Human.
Common Veterinary Species: Dog, Cat, and Horse (used extra-label).
Uses: Treatment of bacterial infections of the eye accompanied by significant inflammation (e.g., severe conjunctivitis).
Form: Ophthalmic Suspension (preserved with benzalkonium chloride).
Route of Administration: Ophthalmic (Eye Drops).
Dexamethasone, Neomycin, and Polymyxin B Ophthalmic Suspension is a prescription-only medication. A valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian is required for purchase.
Critical Safety Warning: Similar to other steroid-containing eye drops, this product must never be used in an eye with a corneal ulcer or scratch, as the corticosteroid component will prevent healing and can cause the eye to "melt" or rupture. Additionally, some cats may have a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to Neomycin. This medication must be used strictly under veterinary supervision following a thorough eye exam.
