Adequan® Canine contains Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG), the only approved disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) for dogs. Unlike traditional pain relievers that only mask symptoms, Adequan® is specifically designed to treat the underlying disease of non-infectious degenerative or traumatic arthritis. It works by inhibiting enzymes that break down cartilage, stimulating the production of healthy joint fluid (hyaluronic acid), and reducing inflammation within the synovial joints. This comprehensive approach helps to slow the progression of arthritis and improve mobility.
Active Ingredient: Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG) (100 mg/mL).
Approved Species: Dog.
Uses: Chondroprotectant and Disease-Modifying Osteoarthritis Drug (DMOAD) for the treatment of arthritis and associated lameness.
Form: Injectable solution (2 x 5 mL multi-dose vials).
Route of Administration: Intramuscular (IM) injection.
Adequan® Canine is a prescription-only medication in Canada. A valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian is required for purchase. Professional oversight is necessary to ensure an accurate diagnosis of osteoarthritis and to determine the correct injection schedule (typically twice weekly for up to four weeks). Because it is an injectable medication, your veterinarian will also provide guidance on proper administration techniques and monitor your dog’s response to therapy.
